Upper Campus Data Centre Refurbishment project completed

ICTS is pleased to announce the completion of the Upper Campus Data Centre Refurbishment project, which began in 2021. Through this project, ICTS and our partners in Properties & Services have improved the data centre’s capacity and resilience – enhancing the technological infrastructure behind many of UCT's online services, while also boosting redundancy, resiliency, and efficiency.

Key improvements achieved through this project

• Improved UCT’s capability to meet future data centre server and storage facility requirements.
• Updated power and cooling systems are modern and energy-efficient.
• Added capacity to accommodate satellite compute and storage resources spread around campus.
• Enhanced data centre design for greater energy efficiency, contributing towards UCT's environmental sustainability goals.
• Established a Secure hosting facility.

A stronger technological base for UCT

This project has also improved the data centre's ability to service UCT’s growing High Performance Computing, Research, and Teaching & Learning capabilities.
