iCal is a standard internet calendar format that enables you to create and share electronic calendars and events across different computers and programmes. Create your own iCalendar items or keep track of events on campus by using UCT’s internet calendars.

The range of calendars include the UCT academic year and public holidays.

You can either subscribe via an iCal feed to your mailbox or view a calendar online using the links shown below.

UCT Internet Calendars can be used with Outlook or any other compatible iCal client and are available to UCT staff, third parties and students as well as people external to UCT.

Create an iCal(.ics) file in Outlook


There are two ways to create and send an iCalendar item.

Option 1

  1. Create a calendar item (i.e. Meeting request) and click File > Save as > iCalendar format (*.ics).
  2. Click Save.
  3. Create a new email message and attach the .ics file.

Option 2

  1. Create a calendar item and click the dropdown arrow next to Forward under the Meetings tab.
  2. Select Forward as iCalendar.
  3. Enter the recipient details and necessary information in the new email message and click Send.

Choose one of the following options to create and send an iCalender entry.

Option 1

  1. Create a calendar item (i.e. Meeting request) and click Save and Close.
  2. Click File to create a new email message.
  3. Click and drag the item from your calendar into a greyed out area in the message header.
  4. It will appear as an .ics attachment.

Option 2

  1. Create a calendar event and click Save and Close.
  2. Drag the event to your Desktop where it will create an .ics file.
  3. Open a new email message and attach the file.

Subscribe to UCT official calendars

  1. Open your Calendar in Outlook.
    • In the left hand panel, scroll down and right-click Other Calendars > Add Calendar > From Internet.
  2. Copy the relevant .ics link from the table below and paste it into the dialog box.
  3. Confirm that you want to add the calendar.
  4. Access the calendar under Other Calendars near the bottom of your Outlook Calendar.

If you can't add the links via Outlook, view the calendars in your web browser.
