Unlike Microsoft Teams, which comes at no cost to members of the UCT community, you may require a Zoom licence at UCT.

If you are simply attending Zoom meetings, or hosting standard Zoom meetings up to 40 minutes, without requiring cloud storage for recordings, the free, basic plan is suitable for you.

However, if you are hosting longer Zoom meetings and require cloud storage for your meeting recordings, the Educational plan is preferable.

If you plan to host longer Zoom meetings with more than 300 participants, you’ll need a more advanced plan – though the cost can be prohibitive.

If you need more participants in your meetings, additional licence types are available. The next tier licence costs US $600 per year* and allows 500 participants in meetings.

More advanced plans are also available.

* Pricing for the full year, which runs from 1 December to 30 November. Please contact ICTS Acquisitions for the latest pricing.

Note: As of November 2022, Educational plan licences are no longer subsidised by the university, and those who choose to continue on the platform will need to purchase their licence from departmental funds. Microsoft Teams is now UCT's preferred virtual classroom solution, as it provides a wider range of features and is well integrated with the next Learning Management System – Amathuba.
