Each time you create or share a folder or document in OneDrive for Business a hyperlink is automatically generated. You can then easily link to these items in emails or documents.

As of 21 March 2017, you will need to update the first part of the link in bold from https://mscloudtestuctac.sharepoint.com to https://uctcloud.sharepoint.com.

This change is not applicable to the Outlook Web App or the Outlook client. The consumer version of OneDrive will also not be affected by this change. All files or folders created after 21 March 2017 will already be in the new format.

There may be an impact when accessing your data

You may get an error message when accessing items saved in your UCT OneDrive for Business account once the change comes into effect. Follow the steps listed below only if you make use of your UCT OneDrive for Business account.

Sync files to your computer using the OneDrive for Business application

 

Stop syncing to the folder on your computer:

  1. Right-click the OneDrive for Business icon at the bottom of your screen > click Stop syncing a folder.

Note: If the icon is not at the bottom of your screen click Start > enter OneDrive in the search folder and select it from the results page.

  1. Select the folder you want to stop syncing and click Stop syncing.
  2. Click Yes > OK to permanently stop the folder from syncing.

Once the change takes place re-sync the folders.

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com.
  2. Enter your preferredname.surname@uct.ac.za email address in the username field. Leave the password field blank and click Sign In.
  3. Enter your UCT staff number and password on the UCT Single Sign On page and click Sign In.
  4. When the Office 365 portal opens, click the app launcher 
     > OneDrive > Sync.
  5. Click Allow or Yes when prompted to give permission to open OneDrive.
  6. You will then need to do one of the following:
  7. If the Getting ready to sync dialog box appears and nothing else happens, click get the latest version of OneDrive. Once the download is completed you will be prompted to log on.
  8. If the Set up OneDrive dialog box appears, log on with your UCT credentials.
  9. If you have the latest version of OneDrive installed and are logged on, then the Sync your OneDrive files to this PC dialog box will appear. You can either choose specific folders or Sync all files and folders. Click Next.
  10. Your OneDrive for Business files will now appear in the File Explorer or Finder as OneDrive – University of Cape Town.

Hyperlinked to a OneDrive item in any of your documentation or saved the link(s) as a bookmark

 

You will need to replace the first part of the link, https://mscloudtestuctac.sharepoint.com with https://uctcloud.sharepoint.com.

Installed the OneDrive for Business or SharePoint app on your mobile device

You will first need to uninstall these applications and re-install it again once the change is made.

 

Step 1: Delete the app

Apple

  1. Tap and hold the OneDrive or SharePoint app's icon on your home screen until all your iPhone's app icons begin to jiggle.
  2. Tap the small x on the upper corner of the app. You'll then be prompted with an option to delete the app and its data.

Android

  1. Go to your device's Settings menu > Apps or Application manager (this may differ depending on your device).
  2. Tap the app you’d like to uninstall.
  3. Select Uninstall.

 

Step 2: Reinstall OneDrive

Follow the step by step instructions to re-install OneDrive on you Apple or Android device. When you sign in, the apps will link to the new hyperlink.

Blog using Office 365

Links and embedded documents will appear as broken. Blog owners will need to replace the links accordingly.

Use the Delve application to quickly access files and folders shared with you and those you created

You need to re-add the documents to Delve Boards as these will no longer be available.
