To help keep the UCT network secure, each year, ICTS renews wireless authentication certificates for our wireless service, eduroam. While the process is usually seamless for customers, this year, there have been significant changes which may require you to take action.
What do I need to do?
Please note that you need to follow these steps only if you will be using eduroam on a UCT campus or another institution where you use eduroam – such as certain public libraries in Cape Town, or participating eduroam institutions locally or abroad.
If you are operating remotely and do not use eduroam, please follow these steps only once you’re back in range of the eduroam signal.
Apple users (Mac computers, iPads, iPhones)
- You will be presented with a pop-up related to the server certificate "nac.uct.ac.za".
- Click or tap Continue.
Windows 10 users
- In the notification area in the bottom right corner of your screen, click the WiFi icon.
- On the list of wireless signals, right-click eduroam then click Forget.
- In the notification area, click the WiFi icon again.
- On the list of wireless signals, click eduroam.
- When prompted, log on with your UCT credentials:
- Username: username@wf.uct.ac.za (“username” is your student or staff number)
- Password: your UCT network password.
- Select Connect when prompted to Continue connecting.
- Once you are successfully authenticated, the status will change to Connected. (Note that it may briefly display Limited before this.)
Linux (Ubuntu) users
You do not need to take any action.
Android users
You do not need to take any action.
