ICT components and subsystems need to be properly and proactively maintained to ensure appropriate levels of availability, stability, security and recoverability of services.  Finding time in a busy University calendar to provide this maintenance can be difficult.  In the past, ICTS had to negotiate with faculties, the UCT Library and PASS departments for each maintenance slot that was required.  This was a lengthy process and in some cases meant that slots had to be re-scheduled due to conflicts in some areas of teaching or research.

Proposal accepted

To avoid having to repeat this process each time and to be able to proactively maintain the ICT infrastructure, ICTS consulted with the various role players (Faculty and PASS IT representatives, the UCT Library, the University ICT committee, and the Operations Management Advisory Group) to seek approval  for regular monthly maintenance slots.  The proposal was accepted by all the role players mentioned and these maintenance slots will occur from 09:00 to 17:00 on a Sunday, normally on the third Sunday of each month.

What maintenance slots are scheduled for this year?

The ICTS Maintenance slots are published in the UCT academic calendar on the UCT Website.  To view the calendar, please visit www.uct.ac.za/main/calendar/academic-calendar

A timetable showing the maintenance slots for the current year can be found below. Please remember to look at the schedule before setting up any courses, meetings, tests or exams, etc., that would require ICT services over the scheduled maintenance period.
