A remote desktop client comes standard on all Windows machines.

  1. Connect to the UCT VPN service.
  2. Click Start and search for Remote Desktop Connection.
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Computer: rds.uct.ac.za.
    • User name: username@wf.uct.ac.za.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter your UCT password and click OK.
  6. Select Desktop and open the software package or application you would like to use.
  7. Choose where you would like to save the file.
  8. When you've finished using the Remote Desktop Connection, click X at the top of the screen.
  9. Click OK in the dialog box that appears indicating that your remote session will be disconnected.
  10. Your remote desktop session is completed.
  11. Disconnect from the UCT VPN service.
