This curated digital showcase focuses on the ethical, responsible, and practical application of AI in staff member workflows at our institution. Building on the AI Literacies for staff: Supporting effective and ethical work Success Factors course offerings on AI will introduce AI concepts, ethics, prompting, and evaluation, this showcase will promote turning AI literacy theory into applied practice.
PASS UCT staff across pay classes 7–13 work in diverse contexts and hold varying levels of responsibility. As a result, AI use at UCT must always be context dependent. What is appropriate in one role may pose ethical, legal, or operational risks in another.
This emphasises that AI is a support tool — not a decision-maker. Efficiency gains must never come at the cost of confidentiality, accountability, or policy compliance. Through realistic, role-specific scenarios, case study participants practice ethical judgment, risk assessment, and responsible workflow integration aligned with POPIA and other relevant UCT policies.
