UCT Classroom Upgrades

From 2012 to 2017, UCT embarked on a large-scale upgrade of centrally-bookable classrooms, known as the Classroom Renewal Project. The wide-ranging project focused on upgrading and standardising classrooms across all campuses, covering areas such as physical renovations, audio-visual and information technology (AV-IT) upgrades, lecture recording, and more.

Various other upgrades followed in the years after the project, and in mid-2026, we embarked on a significant project to upgrade certain core components of the AV-IT setup.

This means that classrooms which contain the standard UCT lectern (or desk) will receive new control panels which will enable you to more easily manage the output displayed on the classroom projectors.

The panels come in two varieties:

1. Touchscreen
2. Button

Instructions for using the panels are included in the classroom information database page for each impacted venue.

Upgrade schedule

The upgrade project began in the mid-year 2026 vacation, and will proceed in the coming years during the mid-year and year-end vacations to allow teaching spaces to be used for lectures during term time.
