Mobile data rollout for December

As the academic year ends for most of you with exams in December 2020, data rollouts will be limited to select groups of people who require data to continue with learning activities over the vac period.

These students will include:

  1. Those attending summer school.
  2. Those attending bootcamp.
  3. Those writing supplementary or deferred exams.
  4. Selected Postgrad research students.

 

If you qualify to receive data:

Mobile networks will start the next data allocations from 17 Dec 2020. Telkom will only start rolling out data to their subscribers from 18 December 2020 and Cell C on the 4th of Jan. These rollouts will take several days.

Please opt out if you no longer require data

Despite the high cost of data, the university has been able to purchase data for students who don’t have access to online resources. However, if you already have access to these resources (e.g. via eduroam, WiFi at home, or you can afford to buy your own data), please opt out of receiving future data bundles from UCT. The more money UCT saves, the more students we can assist.

  1. Log on to PeopleSoft with your student number and password.

  2. Click the Biographic tab and in the Mobile Data Bundles section, select No.
