Definition of a third party
A third party is neither a UCT staff member (T1, T2 and T3 contract staff and permanent staff) nor a registered student, but someone who requires access to one or more UCT facilities for a limited period (not exceeding six months).
There are two broad categories of third parties at UCT:

Role model for individual third parties
With the changes to the Microsoft Licensing agreements, additional classifications have been introduced into the UCT Role Model. These classifications are intended to differentiate and provide guidance on the types of Microsoft licensing and entitlements based on the UCT Role Model.
Additional types
- Microsoft 365 (desktop application licence): user has full access to Microsoft 365 services, including the ability to install desktop applications.
- Microsoft Office 365 online (lite user licence): user has access to selected Microsoft 365 services available through
the Microsoft Portal, including Word Online, Excel Online, and PowerPoint Online. - UCT Voice: user has access to UCT Unified Communication Services, offered as a paid service at UCT.
